Today's Life's Black Belt is 3-Time BJJ World Champion, Co-Owner and Master Instructor of Princeton Brazilian Jiujitsu, Professor Emily Kwok. Emily is a pioneer of the sport of BJJ and a great ambassador for women’s jiu jitsu through her work with Groundswell Grappling Concepts, as well as through the “How to Defeat the Bigger Stronger Opponent” series produced with Stephan Kesting. Emily is also a highly demanded instructor, traveling the world teaching seminars to hundreds of students each year.
Most of Emily's interviews around the world obviously focus on her success as a BJJ practitioner and world champion competitor. Although we obviously discuss how BJJ has impacted her life, this is more about who Emily is on a personal level and why she is also a Black Belt in life.
She takes us from her birth in Japan, to growing up in Canada and eventually settling in the United States. She talks personally about the challenges she's faced throughout her life, including a consistent desire to feel like she belonged and fit in.
We discuss her mindset, philosophy and how she has grown and matured as she's gotten older. We discuss her life as a Mom and how she’s able to prioritize the important things in life. How important it is to surround yourself by the right people and friends.
It was an honor and pleasure to have her on the podcast. I hope you enjoy today's Life's Black Belt, Emily Kwok.
